The Rev. James A. Ward, S.J. papers consist of devotional material along with diaries, pedagogical materials, and letters concerning administration of Washington Seminary.
James A Ward was born in Philadelphia in 1813 and was educated at Washington Seminary and Georgetown College. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1832 and was ordained in 1843. Throughout his career, he taught poetry, rhetoric, physics, chemistry, as well as serving as administrator at, Frederick, Washington Seminary, Loyola College (Baltimore), and Holy Cross (Worcester, MA). Ward died at Georgetown in 1895.
