Syrian-American seismologist. Ph.D. seismology, Columbia University (1971). Professional experience includes: Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University; from research scientist to full professor, associate director of the Institute for the Study of the Continents (INSTOC), professor emeritus, Cornell University (1971-); associate professor, chairman of the Department of Geophysics at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, King Abdulaziz University (1978-1980).
