Mainly concerns Herb's work on accelerators at University of Wisconsin and his work for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Radiation Laboratory during World War II. Brief discussion of childhood, education at Wisconsin, the construction of high voltage machines just before World War II, work on antennas at the Rad Lab, the competition between Rad Lab and Navy radar onboard the USS Semmes, the development of gun-laying radar, and the Paris branch of the Rad Lab.
