Newport News (Va.). Department of Development
City of Newport News records, early 1980s - late 1990s.
Within the collection are brochures, proposals for the Applied Research Center, and studies for land usage.
The City of Newport News has supported the development of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility since learning the city was a contender for the site. The city's never-ending support has extended to the recent bidding for the Electron Ion Collider as well, with the promise of providing more land for the collider in order to bring it to Jefferson Lab. The on-going collaboration and support between the two entities has allowed for a relationship that has brought jobs to the city as well as international recognition as a leader in science and nuclear research.
