The collection consists of Professor Lingenfelter's research notes, copies of articles, manuscripts and galley sheets of his various works on western American history.
Richard Emery Lingenfelter was born in 1934 in Farmington, New Mexico; AB, UCLA, 1956; became physicist at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory, 1957-62; research geophysicist (1962-68) and professor of geophysics and planetary physics (1969-79), UCLA; affiliated with Center for Astrophysics, UC San Diego; author of several books on western American history.
