Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut f r Strm̲ungsforschung
Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut f r Strm̲ungsforschung records, 1918-1950.
This collection documents activities of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut f r Strm̲ungsforschung (Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Flow Research). The records include correspondence, financial and personnel records, research, and reports.
The Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Flow Research was founded in 1924 in Gt̲tingen, linked to the Aerodynamischen Versuchsanstalt (Aerodynamic Research Institute). It has been run as an independent institute since 1937. In 1942 a department for friction research was set up at the Technical University of Berlin. In 1945 the institute was closed by the American occupation forces and taken over by the British Ministry of Supply. In 1946 the institute was reopened together with the friction research department, which had meanwhile been relocated to Hanover and Gt̲tingen, and in 1948 it was incorporated into the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG).
