Richard Zallen image collection, 1962-2006.
This photo collection contains images that span from the early-1960s to the mid-2000s. Early photos show Zallen in attendance at various professional conferences and programs such as the Gordon Research Conference and an International Summer Course on Solid State Physics, Optical Properties of Semiconductors, sponsored by NATO Advanced Study Institute. The collection also includes photos of other scientists which were take by Zallen. These figures include Jan Tauc, William Paul, Lawrence C. Kravitz, Paul M. Grant, Thomas Shankland, Jean Michel Besson, Ehud Furman, Oren Brafman, Michael Hayek, Elisha Cohen, and Chanock Katz. Some portraits of Zallen himself are also included. Later photos predominately show Zallen, along with his peers and family, celebrating his retirement.
Richard Zallen obtained a bachelors of science in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1957 and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University in 1964. He is Professor Emeritus of Physics at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has published more than one hundred articles and a widely cited book, The Physics of Amorphous Solids.
