Oral history interview with Jenny Glusker, 5 March 2020.
In this interview AIP Oral Historian David Zierler interviews Jenny Glusker of the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Glusker discusses her upbringing in Birmingham, England and the influences of her parents, who were both doctors. Glusker explains her burgeoning interest in chemistry as an undergraduate at Oxford, her developing specialization in x-ray crystallography, and her focus on vitamin B12 in graduate school. Glusker describes her first job in the United States at Caltech where she worked with Linus Pauling, and the developments leading to her joining Fox Chase in Philadelphia. Glusker describes her long career at Fox Chase and the development of cancer research during her tenure, particularly with regard to her work on diffractions. The interview concludes with Glusker hypothesizing on the future of cancer research and her expectation that treatments will change in step with our changing understanding of illnesses.
