Professional experience includes: physicist, National Bureau of Standards (1910-1920); chief of the physical laboratory, U.S. Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh (1922-1926); instructor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1910-1922); lecturer and research associate, visiting professor, Brown University (1934-1936, 1957-); consultant for the Manhattan Project, Columbia University (WWII); Naval Engineering Experiment Station at Annapolis (1947-1957).
