Seacoast Anti-Pollution League records, 1969-1989.
The Seacoast Anti-Pollution League (SAPL) Collection contains materials related to the functions and organization of SAPL and information and numerous reports on the construction of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant. The collection includes: office files, correspondence, financial materials, publications, reports, licensing information, and materials on nuclear safety.
The Seacoast Anti-Pollution League (SAPL) formed on March 29, 1969 in response to the announcement that Seabrook, New Hampshire would be the site of a nuclear power plant. SAPL engaged in legal actions to halt and hinder construction. Their activities, done in order to preserve the salt marsh areas around the plant, forced numerous changes in the Seabrook plant's design. With the completion of the plant, SAPL shifted their emphasis to issues of emergency preparedness and nuclear safety.
