American pharmaceutical and physical chemist. Ph.D. chemistry, University of Wisconsin (1943). Professional experience includes: assistant chemist, research associate, University of Wisconsin (1940-1944); research chemist, University of Akron (1944-1947); from assistant professor to Edward Kremers professor, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1947-1967); regents professor of pharmacy and chemistry, chairman of the pharmaceutical chemistry department, University of Kansas (1967-1986). Known world-wide as the "father of physical pharmacy."
