Gilbert Rusk Van Dyke papers, 1968-1982.
The Van Dyke Papers consist largely of research notes and data connected with his oceanographic studies and proposals, drafts and notes concerning his dissertation, "Natural Light Field in the Upper Layers of the Sea: A Study of Their Diffuse Optical Properties," including lectures by R.W. Preisendorfer. Van Dyke was admitted to doctoral degree candidacy in 1980 and was conducting research on his dissertation under the direction of Seibert Quimby Duntley at the time of his death. The collection also includes papers concerning the TRW and documenting Van Dyke's experiences as a Scripps graduate student.
