In this interview John Gosling discusses topics such as: his childhood in Akron, Ohio; obtaining his BS in physics from Ohio University in 1960 and his PhD in physics from University of California, Berkeley in 1965; work with Robert Brown on atmospheric physics (especially balloon experiments in Alaska), work in Luis Alvarez's group as technician, work with Kinsey Anderson on space physics; colleagues with Marcia Neugebauer; Los Alamos laboratory fellow; worked under Gordon Newkirk at High Altitude Observatory (HAO), with Bob MacQueen on Skylab mission; published Skylab work on coronal mass ejections; unhappy at HAO and return to Los Alamos; work with Bill Feldman; European collaborations with Hundhausen, Paschmann, Sonnerfup; ULYSSES mission (1991); Advanced Composition Explore (ACE; 1998); collaboration with Dan Baker, Dave McComas; move to Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) for work on solar wind measurements; membership in American Geophysical Union (AGU); winning 2000 John Adam Fleming Award, 2004 AGU Parker Lecture, and 2013 National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Arctowski Prize for Solar Physics.
Heliophysicist; PhD in Physics, University of California, Berkeley (1965); worked at Los Alamos Laboratory, High Altitude Observatory, National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at University of Colorado, Boulder.
