The collection consists of the research notes, correspondence, published manuscripts, and photographic materials of Gerald E. Kron. The collection consists of Kron's notes and photographs of his work on solid fuel rockets as a civilian scientist during WWII; notes regarding Kron's development of instruments including the electronographic camera, the ultra-high vacuum valve, and the Shane 3-M telescope; and correspondence with colleagues and friends.
American astronomer. Ph.D. astronomy, University of California, Berkeley (1938). Professional experience includes: from junior astronomer to astronomer, Lick Observatory, University of California (1938-1965); director, United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station (1965-1973); senior research fellow, Australian National University, Mt. Stromlo Observatory (1974-1976). Known for advancing the study of stellar populations and interstellar reddening through measuring the photometry of variable stars, stars of extreme luminosity, and star clusters.
