Tuve, Merle Antony, 1901-1982.
Merle Antony Tuve papers, 1901-1982 (bulk 1941-1966).
Correspondence, reports, articles, laboratory and personal notebooks, diagrams, blueprints, personnel records, memoranda, and printed material, chiefly 1941-1966, relating to Tuve's scientific and administrative career, including his projects and experiments involving research on the composition of the upper atmosphere, cosmic-ray flares, high-voltage, magnetism and the Earth's magnetic field, nuclear physics, the proximity fuze, the quartz furnace, seismics, and the Van de Graaff two-meter generator. Places and conferences associated with Tuve's career include the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University, Dept. of Terrestrial Magnetism of Carnegie Institution, Washington, D.C., International Geophysical Year, National Academy of Sciences, Radio Astronomy Project at Greenbank, W. Va., and Washington Conference on Theoretical Physics, 1939-1940. Includes 10 scientific notebooks, 1930-1931, of his wife, Dr. Winifred G. Whitman, who collaborated with Tuve in analyzing the effect on animals of high frequency resonance radiation. Correspondents include Vannevar Bush, John A. Fleming, L. R. Hafstad, John Merriam, Howard Tatel, Robert J. Van de Graaff, Carl Van Doren, and James Lloyd Weatherwax.
