Wigner, Eugene Paul, 1902-1995
Eugene Wigner theory of solid state lectures, 1948-1949.
Lectures given by E.P. Wigner at Palmer Physics Department, Princeton University, 1948/1949. Notes on lectures prepared by E. T. Jaynes. Topics discussed include: theory of the solid state; Bravais lattices; space groups; macroscopic geometry of crystals; shape and growth of crystals; x-ray, electron, and neutron diffraction in crystals geometrical considerations; the structures of crystals; long range order in crystals.
Hungarian-born American physicist. Professor of mathematical physics, Princeton University (1933-1937 and 1939-1971). Staff, Metallurgical Laboratory, University of Chicago (the Manhattan project), atomic bomb research; U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (1952-1957, 1959-1964) and director of the Civil Defense Research Project at Oak Ridge, TN (1964-1965).
