S. George Bankoff recollections of the first Hanford nuclear reactor, 1943-1945.
The author's personal recollections of his participation in the Manhattan Project and of some of the events leading up to and including the startup of the first nuclear reactor at the Hanford Engineering Works in Richland, Washington in 1943-44, with emphasis on the work of the engineers. The author held the position of subgroup leader in the fluid flow and heat transfer area, and later as a technical assistant to manufacturing in the pile area at Hanford.
