This collection of 3733 videotapes documents the investigation of and extensive effort to clean up the plant and to understand exactly what had happened during a reactor malfunction at the Three Mile Island Unit 2 Nuclear Generating Station near Middletown, Pa.
Three Mile Island Unit 2 was put into operation in January 1979, and closed after the accident in March 1979. Three Mile Island units were owned by the General Public Utilities holding company and managed by Metropolitan Edison. MetEd was renamed GPU Nuclear in 1980.
