Los Alamos National Laboratory (1950); faculty, University of Chicago (1950); researcher, IBM Watson Laboratory, Columbia University (1952-1970); consultant for the U.S. government on issues of military technology and arms control; adjunct professor in physics at Columbia University; professor of public policy, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. According to physicist Edward Teller, Garwin was instrumental in creating the first hydrogen bomb.
