Ruark, Arthur Edward, 1899-
Arthur Ruark lecture notes and manuscript on theory of relativity, circa 1951.
Includes a 22-page transcript of "How to Understand Special Relativity," defined on the cover page as "Informal notes for circulation to a limited number of friends and colleagues. October, 1951." The cover page also indicates that this was written while Ruark was on the staff of Institute for Cooperative Research, at Johns Hopkins University. Also included are Parts I and II of "Lecture Notes on the Theory of Relativity," handwritten and undated.

Chief, physics division research laboratory, Gulf Oil Corporation, 1930; professor of physics, University of Pittsburgh, 1930-1934; head physics department, University of North Carolina, 1934-1944; research positions at Johns Hopkins University, 1946-52; assistant and senior associate director of research, Atomic Energy Commission, 1956-1969. Died 1979.
