Roman, Nancy Grace, 1925-
Nancy Grace Roman papers, 1931-1993 (bulk 1950-1980).
Correspondence; writings; newspaper clippings; notebooks; research notes; educational records; awards; travel itineraries; personnel records. The materials are primarily biographical in content and include material from Roman's elementary school days through her professional career, including her work as one of the early female division chiefs at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Much of the personal correspondence is with her parents, Georgia Smith Roman and Irwin Roman, a geophysicist. Although Roman's research is not well documented in this collection, the professional files do include some correspondence and also notes and research reports from her successive positions at the University of Chicago Yerkes Observatory, the Naval Research Laboratory, and NASA; the research files contain a small amount of correspondence and notes on projects concerning nebular counts, high velocity stars and eclipsing binaries.
