The Department of Geology and Geophysics records consist of the syllabus of a lecture course on the geological investigation of the alluvial valley of the lower Mississippi River by H.N. Fisk (circa 1945), a program for the groundbreaking ceremony for the annex to the Geology Building (1984), and six posters advertising programs of study in the department (1986-1992).
Geology was formally established at Louisiana State University from 1892 to 1898; became the Department of Geology and Geophysics in 1985 and is under the College of Basic Sciences.
