Niels Bohr Library & Archives
The Emilio Segr ̀ˆvisual archives, circa 1870-
An extensive collection of some 30,000 historical digital images, photographs, slides, lithographs, engravings, drawings and other visual materials relating to the history of physics and its allied sciences. The collection focuses on modern American physicists, astronomers and geophysicists, but includes many scientists in Europe and elsewhere, in other fields related to physics, and in earlier times. It contains photos and illustrations of industrial laboratories, meetings of scientific societies, academic physics departments, observatories, apparatus, telescopes, accelerators and other instruments, objects and places.
The Niels Bohr Library & Archives is part of the Center for History of Physics of the American Institute of Physics. Its primary mission is to preserve and make known the history of modern physics and allied sciences. The photograph collection is named in honor of Emilio Segr,̀ˆ best known for his Nobel Prize-winning work in nuclear and high-energy physics, but also an avid photographer and author of books on the history of modern physics.
