St. John X-Ray Laboratory records, 1925-1970.
Reprints; bibliographies; reports; notebooks; photographic albums. The reprints (1925-1965) provide a survey of the literature of industrial radiology; the bibliographies (1958-1976) include the biennial bibliographies published by the St. John X-ray Laboratory on industrial radiology and the unpublished card file bibliography maintained by the company (ca. 1925-1975). Reports (ca. 1925-1935) contain product tests performed by St. John for various firms that employed them; three notebooks (ca. 1925-1938) comprise a sample of the Laboratory's field work; and the photographic albums include x-ray studies and photographs of St. John's x-ray equipment.
A pioneer industrial radiology firm, the St. John X-ray Service, Inc., was established by Ancel St. John in Long Island City, N.Y. in 1925. It did research and consultations in radiology, x-ray and radium inspections and analysis, and manufactured and installed industrial x-ray equipment. It also used its equipment, both in-house and on-site, for weld inspections and patent investigations. After 1946, the firm (by now known as St. John X-ray Laboratory) was located in Califon, N.J., under the ownership and presidency of Herbert R. Isenburgher.
