This collection documents the history of the Society of Rheology from its founding years (1924-1929) through 1997. The collection includes constitution and bylaws and other founding and incorporation documents, annual meeting and Executive Committee meeting material and minutes, officers' correspondence, information on Society of Rheology publishing, membership lists, Bingham Award correspondence, and information on the membership and publishing relationship and agreements between the Society of Rheology and the American Institute of Physics. Publications represented include the JOURNAL OF RHEOLOGY, the RHEOLOGY BULLETIN, and the RHEOLOGY LEAFLET. Correspondents include: Eugene C. Bingham, Frank D. Dexter, George Julian Dienes, John Henry Dillon, A. Stuart Hunter, Hershel Markovitz, John C. Miller, and William R. Willets.
A professional society of chemists, physicists, biologists, and others that seeks the advancement of rheology, the theory and precise measurement of the deformation and flow of matter and its applications, through meetings and publications. The Society was organized in 1929 and is a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics.
