Thomas J. J. See Collection, 1907-1938.
This collection contains articles, reprints, and books that covers Thomas See findings on space and time, wave theory, and his views against Einsteins theory of relativity, etc. The maps that are in this collection are maps of Alaska. The collection contains media (maps), print media (books), and research material.
Thomas See (February 1866 July 1962) was an American astronomer whose theories in astronomy and physics were later disproven due to plagiarism and conflict. See was born near Montgomery City Missouri on February 19, 1866. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1889 and received his PhD in mathematics in 1892 from the University of Berlin. After receiving his PhD, See returned to the United States to pursue his career as an instructor at the University of Chicago. Sees plans to become an instructor at the University of Chicago were not successful so he decided to leave Chicago in 1896 to go work at Lowell Observatory. While See was in Chicago, he published his findings about the binary star system in The Astronomical Journal. In 1898, See was dismissed from his position at the Lowell Observatory and appointed to the United States Naval Observatory in Washington D.C. in 1899. He was later banned from publishing further after his last publication in The Astronomical Journal was an abusive reply to F. R. Moulton published findings which mentioned that Sees findings about the binary star system were false. After teaching for one semester at the United States Naval Academy in 1902, See suffered a nervous breakdown and was transferred to a naval shipyard at Mare Island, California. See spent his later years arguing against Einsteins theory of relativity.
