Correspondence; diaries (1862-1870; 1889); subject file relating to Abbe's activities and including weather maps constructed by Abbe and copies of weather synopses and probabilities which were issued as bulletins with the cooperation of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. The correspondence reflects his career with the Weather Service of the Army Signal Corps, his participation in the West African Eclipse Expedition (1880's), and his career in the U. S. Weather Bureau. Includes a number of letters to and from Benjamin A. Gould whom Cleveland Abbe assisted in the telegraphic longitude work of the U. S. Coast Survey at Cambridge, and many letters from Otto Wilhelm von Struve, former director of the Nicholas Central Observatory in Pulkovo, Russia, where Abbe was a guest astronomer. Other correspondents include Albert S. Bickmore, James H. Coffin, William Ferrel, Wolcott Gibbs, Asaph Hall, Joseph Henry, Samuel P. Langley, Simon Newcomb, Alphneus S.
