International Union of Crystallography.
International Union of Crystallography Paul Peter Ewald records, 1936-1967.
The records of Paul Peter Ewald contain correspondence, published reports, minutes and agendas of meetings, and miscellaneous directories and newsletters. Materials were collected by Ewald in his position as member of the International Union of Crystallography (IUC) Executive Committee and as IUC president. Ewald's files document the activities of various committees of the IUC during his terms of office, particularly meetings held by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics; the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC); and meetings held jointly with the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). Most correspondence is with Donald W. Smits, General Secretary of the IUC.
The Union was founded in 1947 to advance international cooperation in crystallography; contribute to the advancement of the field in all aspects including non-crystalline states; promote international publication of crystallographic research; facilitate international standardization of methods, units, nomenclature, and symbols used in crystallography; and form a focus for the relations of crystallography to other sciences.
