The papers of James E. Keeler contain correspondence, family photographs, diary and notebooks, academic papers, articles and lectures. Also contains biographical information on James Keeler as well as an article on the early days of the Lick Observatory (1986).
American astronomer. Honorary Sc.D. (University of California, 1893). Director, University of Pittsburgh Alleghenny Observatory (1891-1898); dirctor, Lick Observatory (1898 until his unexpected death in 1900). Along with George Hale, Keeler founded and edited the Astrophysical Journal; one of the several co-founders of the American Astronomical Society (1899).
