The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) is one of the 10 general campuses of the University of California system. The Department of Physics was founded when the university (formerly a teachers' college) joined the University of California system in 1944. The Department of Physics is housed in Broida Hall, named after Herbert P. Broida, molecular physicist and early department member.
