American Association of Physics Teachers early history records, 1929-1966.
Materials assembled in conjunction with the writing of the 1966 official history of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) by Vincent E. Parker and Charles G. Wilder. Primarily correspondence (1929-1932) documenting the founding (1930) and early years of the AAPT, its affiliation with the American Institute of Physics, and plans for an AAPT journal. Early documents include minutes of a preliminary planning meeting and the first formal meeting in 1930, drafts of the suggested program for the first meeting, the constitution of the new organization, and a list of its first twenty-five members. Also contains reminiscences by charter members Homer L. Dodge, Paul E. Klopsteg, and David L. Webster, and drafts and the published version of the history. Correspondents include Marshall N. States and William S. Webb.
This professional society of teachers of physics in colleges, universities, and secondary schools, was established in 1930 to advance the teaching of physics and further the appreciation of the role of physics in society and culture. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics.
