Weisskopf, Victor Frederick, 1908-2002
Victor Weisskopf lecture notes on nuclear structure, 1956.
Lecture notes from the course, Nuclear Structure, taught by Victor Weisskopf at Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1956. Topics covered include: properties of the nucleus, electric and magnetic moments, nuclear forces, particle model, shell structure, nuclear deformations, nuclear reactions, theory of average cross sections and the optical model for nuclear reactions.
Ph. D., University of Gottingen, Germany, 1931, was professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1946 until his retirement in 1974. He was director general of the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland from 1960-1965. Weisskopf's research focus was theoretical work in quantum electrodynamics and nuclear particle physics.
