20th Century Chinese Physicists and Physics [sound recording], 2014 March 6.
Audio recording of session W38 of the March 2014 annual meeting of the American Physical Society, held in Denver, Colorado in March 2014. This session was chaired by Danian Hu, City College of New York. Talks (and speakers) include: "Chien-Shiung Wu: An Icon of Physicist and Woman Scientist in China" (Yuelin Zhu); "2014 Beller Lectureship: Chinese Physicists Educated in the Great Britain during the First Half of the 20th Century" (Xiaodong Yin); "Mao and physics research in China in the 1950s-1960s: the H-bomb project and the Straton model" (Tian Yu Cao); "Some problems in the competition of high-temperature superconductivity research during the late 1980s" (Bing Liu); "A Brief History of the Institute of Theoretical Physics in the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 1978" (Liu Jinyan). Topics discussed include Chinese physicists, Chien-Shiung Wu, T. D. Lee, C. N. Yang, high temperature superconductivity, Institute of Theoretical Physics (ITP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Peng Huanwu, Zhou Guangzhao.
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. The American Physical Society (APS) meetings are a forum for scientists to gather and share research results on a wide range of physics and physics-related topics.
