Physicist (nuclear physics). Emeritus Leverett Professor Physics at Harvard University 1975-. He designed and built the first cyclotron at Harvard University, participated in the development of radar during World War II, and oversaw the test explosion of the first nuclear bomb at Alamogordo, New Mexico in July 1945.
