Loeb, Arthur L. (Arthur Lee),
Arthur L. Loeb papers, bulk 1966-1972.
The collection consists of Arthur Loeb's handwritten drafts and a corrected publisher's manuscript for his book Color and Symmetry, published in 1971 which covers topics including crystallography. There is also a notebook in Russian that apparently belonged to Loeb's grandfather Arthur Isaac.
Born in Amsterdam, Holland in 1923. He did undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and received his Ph.D. from Harvard University where he would later teach. Early work on the design of the core memory for the Whirlwind computer lead to a lifelong interest in spatial patterns and visual mathematics. He also worked as a research chemist for Kennecott Copper Co. and died in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2002.
