C.E.K. Mees was born in Wellingborough, England. He was educated at the University of London where he received his D.Sc. degree in 1906. His dissertation was based upon research in photographic theory. In 1912 he moved to the United States and became director of research for Eastman Kodak Co. of Rochester, N.Y. From 1934 until his retirement in 1955 he was vice president in charge of research and development. His laboratory was one of America's pioneering industrial research facilities. The processes his laboratory developed made it possible to produce a rolled film which was accessible to the amateur photographer.
