Burbidge, Percy William
Percy William Burbidge research notes and papers, 1940-1980.
This collection documents New Zealand science during World War II; the story of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR); memoirs of early physics in New Zealand (1909-1950); and personal notes regarding Auckland University and Victoria College Wellington. Draft chapters for a history of science in New Zealand during World War II discuss development of science in New Zealand up to 1939, scientific work on radio and radar, and science applied to armed forces. The collection also includes photographs as well as Burbidge's notes for use by New Zealand historian Keith Sinclair in his history of University of Auckland. These notes are divided into four headings: Organisation of the University; Physics Department; Personalities; and Major events.
