The personal papers of Piccard include correspondence, student papers, photographs, manuscripts, a dissertation, and artifacts. The collection includes files relating to Piccard's teaching and documentation of Jean and Jeannette Ridlon Piccard's stratosphere balloon flights, particulary the 1937 flight from Rochester, Minnesota.
Pioneering stratosphere balloonist and cosmic ray research scientist. Professor in the University of Minnesota Department of Aeronautical Engineering, 1936-1952. In 1919 he married Jeannette Ridlon who worked with her husband on many of his experiments; their stratosphere balloon flight in 1934 from Dearborn, Michigan was the first flight made in the United States to study cosmic rays.
