Collection consists of correspondence, research data, instrument designs, conference papers and reports, talks and lectures, and class materials on Nier's research in quantum mechanics, spectrometry and space exploration. The bulk of the material concerns Nier's research in geochonology, work with NASA on mass spectronomy, correspondence with colleagues, lab notebooks, photographs, manuscripts and copies of his publications, and material reflecting his long career as a member of the faculty of the University of Minnesota.
Physicist (nuclear physics). Professor of physics, University of Minnesota, 1938- . Best known for his work in mass spectrometer design, the Manhattan Project, and space science research. Died 1994.
