Papers include eight volumes of student notebooks from the period Walton was an undergraduate, 1921-1926; microfilm copies (2 reels) of Walton's research notebooks from Cavendish Laboratory; and some correspondence including a series of letters written by Walton to his parents and fiancee while he was engaged in the research with Cockcroft that led to the splitting of the atom.
