Salter, Lewis Spencer, 1926-89.
Lewis Spencer Salter papers, 1955-1989.
Collection includes Salter's research journals beginning in 1955 and ending in 1989. The journals include the studies of Anharmonic Theory of Crystal Lattice, X-ray Diffraction by Crystalline Solids, the Statistical Mechanics of Crystal Lattices, Calculations of Heat Capacity of Aluminum, and The Equation State of Highly Compressed Solids, to name a few. The last eight journals concentrate on the stationary quantum energy states of the one-dimensional potential energy function, V(x) = x 2p, where particular integer values of p have been considered. The Wabash College Physics Department has Lewis Salter's folders on problems which interested him such as Continum Mechanics, Liquid theory, Melting Theory, Radiation Scattering, General Relativity, Anharmonicity, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics. Although most of the volumes are filled with reprints of articles, they also contain some of Dr. Salter's note on the subjects. Both the Archives and the Physics Department Collections contain the lecture notes for such courses as Statistical Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics.
