American Physical Society. Annual Meeting (2013: Denver, Colo.)
Pais Prize Lecture: Relations Between Physics and History of Physics [sound recording], 2013 April 15.
Audio recording of session Q6 of the April 2013 annual meeting of the American Physical Society, held in Denver, CO in April 2013. This session was chaired by Don Howard of the University of Notre Dame. Talks (and speakers) include: "Abraham Pais Prize Talk: The Joy of History" (Roger Stuewer); "How History Helped Einstein in Special Relativity" (Alberto Martinez); "How to make judicious use of current physcs in reconstructing its history" (Michel Janssen). Topics discussed include history of physics; Arthur Compton; nuclear physics; Ernest Rutherford; James Chadwick; Hans Pettersson; Gerhard Kirsch; Albert Einstein; relativity; quantum theory.
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. The American Physical Society (APS) meetings are a forum for scientists to gather and share research results on a wide range of physics and physics-related topics.
