American Physical Society Annual Meeting (2013: Baltimore, Md.)
International Physics Programs and History of Physics [sound recording], 2013 March 20.
Audio recording of session M9 of the March 2013 annual meeting of the American Physical Society, held in Baltimore, MD in March 2013. This session was chaired by Gloria Lubkin, former Physics Today Editor. Talks (and speakers) include: "Fulbright Opportunities in the Physical Sciences" (Katrin DeWindt); "Revisiting the Bohr Atom 100 Years Later" (Ernst Wall); "A Transformation Year in Physics: 1932" (Charles W. Clark, Joseph Reader); "Discovery and Development of X-ray Diffraction" (Yeuncheol Jeong, Ming Yin, Timir Datta); "Latest Developments on Documentary Film 'The State of the Unit: the Kilogram'" (Amy Young). Topics discussed include Fulbright Scholar Program; Niels Bohr; atomic structure; deuterium; nuclear theory; Max Laue; x-ray diffraction; crystallography; mass.
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. The American Physical Society (APS) meetings are a forum for scientists to gather and share research results on a wide range of physics and physics-related topics.
