Francis W. Sears papers, 1945-1971.
The papers of Francis W. Sears contain family correspondence as well as correspondence from his tenure in the Dartmouth College department of physics. The collection also contains copyright certificates for one of Sears' physics textbooks, "College Physics."
M.S., physics (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 1924). MIT professor of physics (1924-1955); Dartmouth College, professor of physics and natural philosophy (1955-1971). Co-discoverer of the Debye-Sears effect, and author of many physics textbooks; president, American Association of Physics Teachers (1956); winner of the Oersted Medal for "notable contributions to the teaching of physics."
