This journal documents the construction of the Lick Observatory building on Mt. Hamilton. Also included is a memoir, "Rough record of circumstances on Mt. Hamilton during the construction of the Lick Observatory," 15 November 1880 (8 pages), as well as pay lists for workmen. Subjects include S. W. Burnham, Richard Floyd, and James Lick.
Thomas E. Fraser was the foreman at the Lick Homestead, home of James Lick (1796-1876) in San Jose. He later was in charge, with Trustee Captain Richard S. Floyd, of the construction of the Lick Observatory, then the most powerful telescope in the world.
