Subjects include national measurement systems, the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurement, and different NBS institutes and programs (including plasma physics and astrophysics).
Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the State University of Iowa, 1938. Huntoon joined the National Bureau of Standards in 1941; he was appointed chief of the NBS electronics section in 1946 and chief of the atomic and radiation physics division in 1948. In 1958 he was appointed the first deputy director; he became the director of the Institute for Basic Standards in 1964. In 1967 he was appointed the first chief of the Office of Program Development and Evaluation, serving in this capacity until his retirement the following year.
