William Sinton papers, 1950-1992.
The William Sinton papers contain correspondence, manuscripts and working papers. The manuscripts are Sinton's published papers on topics such as Io and infrared studies of the planets. Working papers consist of his planetary observations and calculations, class notes, Io volcanoes research, and University of Hawaii lectures. Correspondents include colleagues as well as editors at various journals.
Pioneer of infrared planetary astronomy. Ph.D., astronomy (Johns Hopkins University, 1953). Astronomer, Lowell Observatory (1957-1965); faculty, University of Hawaii (1965-1990); helped design the 88-inch telescope on Mauna Kea; adjunct astronomer, Lowell Observatory and member of the Lowell Advisory Board.
