The American College of Medical Physics (ACMP) was established in 1982 with the help of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). The College collaborates with both physicians and physics organizations to promote scientific research in the area of medical physics. The organizations activities include developing practice standards, publishing newsletters and a professional journal, hosting annual meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities, promoting new research, and sponsoring related organizations and activities. In 2011, AAPM took over the running of the society.
