Herring, William Conyers, 1914-
Oral history interview with William Conyers Herring, 1981 December 14.
This is mainly a discussion of Conyers Herring's files from A through D. The interview consists of Herring looking through the letters in his files and reminiscing about them. Major topics include physical electronics conferences, the History of Solid State Physics book, Herring's course on solid state physics at Stanford University, the Buckley Prize, Harvey Brooks, and the Gordon Conferences.
(1914-2009): American physicist; Ph.D. in physics, Princeton University (1937); worked at Bell Laboratories (1946-1978); then joined the faculty of Stanford University and was the professor of applied physics and played a major role in the development of solid state physics.
