Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Experimental Program Advisory Committee (EPAC).
SLAC Experimental Program Advisory Committee records, 1967-[ongoing].
Records include proposals and proposal presentation materials, impact studies made by lab staff, letters of intent, agendas, and minutes of PAC and EPAC meetings, deliberations and recommendations of the committee, correspondence between the committee's secretaries (Gerhard Fischer, 1967-1982, and David Fryberger, 1982- present) and collaboration spokesmen. For experiments approved by the Director, the secretary also keeps records of assigned time, tests and milestones to be met, the actual number of hours, integrated luminosity or number of chamber pictures received.
EPAC advises the Director on the selection of experiments and use of facilities, and on modifications of facilities and basic installations that would substantially influence the experimental program. This includes proposals by internal and outside users, and by a combination of both. On matters concerning the Positron-Electron Project (PEP), the EPAC also advises the Director of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Formerly the Program Advisory Committee (PAC), it merged with the PEP Program Advisory Committee in 1978 to form EPAC. Membership is drawn from the high-energy- physics community with at least three of its twelve members drawn from recommendations for the SLAC/LBL User's Organization (SLUO) and with at least seven members who are not employees of Stanford University (including SLAC) or the University of California or LBL.
